The first time I saw a Bromoil print was in 1972 by the late Gilbert R. Hooper, at the Welsh Photographic Salon in Bridgend. I was immediately attracted by the appearance of this image which evoked a romantic past and inspired me to find out more about this photographic printing process.
Bromoils possess an inherent nostalgia for a forgotten world of stillness and repose and one in which the human figure gives a feeling of romance to the landscape. It was a memorable day for me, November 20th 1975, when I created my very first Bromoil, alas, far from being technically a perfect print.
Unwilling to give up my ambition to produce quality Bromoils, in the style of the Edwardian period, I persisted and in 1990 I was fortunate enough to acquire an authentic Bromoil printing press which has enabled me to produce Bromoil Transfer prints.
I was elected President in April 2011 when Maija McDougal retired.
