Margaret Sheppard
My first recollection of photography was at the age of 12 when my father bought me a Coronet plastic camera. We took photos and roughly developed and printed them in the bathroom. The results were poor, but it was magical to see the prints "come up" in the developer. At the age of 21 my husband bought me a Mamiya SLR. For the next 30 years I produced high contrast black and white prints using various cameras, but finally settling with Leicas.
Other interests I share with my husband are Stereoscopic photography and camera collecting. We are members of Stereoscopic Society, Photographic Collectors Club International and Leica Postal Portfolios.
I had vaguely heard of Bromoils some 10 years ago. Then through reading a little on the subject and seeing some demonstrations by the members of the Bromoil Circle of Great Britain, I became seriously interested in this branch of photography. I joined the Circle and have been actively participating in all its activities, taking part in exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations and the day to day running of the Society. Bromoiling is not an easy task, but when a print is successful it is a very satisfying and rewarding pastime.
